Tomorrow we leave for 16 days abroad! I'll save you the details until we get back. I'll break it down like I did with Thailand. Today I have been doing laundry, washing my dog (she's going to stay with friends while we are away), packing and booking trains. Last night I was booking hotels and accidentally reserved a non-refundable one in France. We aren't going to France, but it is only five minutes outside of Geneva, Switzerland (the place we are actually staying) so it's not that big of a deal, I guess.
Other than our pending vacation, not much has been happening at Casa de Roan. I'm currently unemployed. No, I didn't get fired. The woman I was subbing for came back from maternity leave, so now I'm forced to stay home and go to the pool every day. I know, I know...sad, right? :)
So, I'm usually not home when our housekeeper comes to clean, but since I'm jobless, I am here. This morning, I hear CRASH, bang, sounds of things breaking. I'm thinking, "Shit. She already broke Brian's Lego's, our Russian egg thing and few other things. What in the world could be left?" She calls me to come downstairs and shows me this cheap, flowery picture thing I bought at Target when I was in college. Seriously, I got it on the clearance aisle. I would bet it didn't cost more than $1.99. It was in pieces on the floor. SHE WAS CRYING! Not just a little tearing-up...full on sobbing. I felt so bad for her and told her it didn't matter, but she insisted that her husband could fix it, so she took it home. The point of this story is that the housekeepers in Qatar are treated like royal shit. If she would have broken something, even as inexpensive, they would have her deported...hence the crying. I need to get her to warm up to me. She's probably breaking all of this stuff because she's nervous, or she's just clumsy. Whatevs.
I'll be back in 16 days, party people! Cheers!
